What a tracker company does (and does not) pay for, and how Cartrack handles a car it cannot find.

According to Cartrack, if a vehicle is not recovered within 10 minutes, a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert is sent to all recovery teams, the case remains open and the vehicle continues to be monitored. You should still report the theft to SAPS on 10111 and to your insurer.
Cartrack launched a Recovery Warranty in 2019, promising up to R1 million if a qualifying vehicle fitted with Cartrack is stolen and not recovered. It only applies to certain vehicles and plans, and conditions apply (for example, reporting the theft promptly). Ask Cartrack whether your contract includes it and get the terms in writing; the warranty has been the subject of disputes referred to the ombudsman.
Your insurer may ask for a tracker installation certificate. Request it from Cartrack client services on 011 250 3000 or clientservices@cartrack.com, and send it to your insurer or broker. See our guide to getting a tracker certificate from any provider.
