Getting the discount actually applied

1. Ask your insurer first

Confirm which tracker categories and providers they approve and the exact percentage they give, before you sign anything.

2. Send proof after fitment

Get the installation certificate and proof of active monitoring, send both to your insurer, and check that your next premium has actually dropped. Full steps are in our insurance premium guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much insurance discount do I get with a tracker?+

Commonly 5% to 30%, depending on the tracker category and your insurer. Basic Category 5 units tend to earn around 10–15%, enhanced Category 6 units 15–25%, and telematics-grade units with driver-behaviour scoring 20–30%.

Can a tracker really pay for itself?+

On higher premiums, yes. On a R2,000/month premium, a 15% discount is R300 a month, more than most mid-range tracker plans cost. On lower premiums the discount usually covers part of the cost, and the main benefit is recovery.

What if my insurer requires a tracker?+

Then the tracker is a condition of cover, not an optional saving. Your vehicle may not be insured for theft without one. Use our insurance-approved trackers page to find qualifying options.
